MAE MACNAIR (MCCULLOCH) After battling ovarian cancer for six years, Mae MacNair (McCulloch), passed away peacefully at Carman Memorial Hospital, with her husband, Jim, at her side. Mae is survived by her husband and constant companion, Jim MacNair, four daughters: Crystal and Gunter Jochum (Michaela, Fiona, Renate, Shavaughn), Coral and Steve Meggison (Sheena, Katie, George, Jillia, Sarah), Twila and Don Smirl (Marissa, Abbey, Calli), Onnolee and Jamie Scharf (Elie, Luca, Naomi); her mother, Meta McCulloch (nee Sinclair); her brother, Alvin and Jeanne McCulloch; her sister, Elvira Carlisle; and numerous relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her father, William McCulloch; her mother's second husband, Goldwin McCulloch; and her parents-in-law, Neil and May MacNair. Mom was born on May 1, 1936 in the Kingsley district south of Somerset, MB. She attended public schools in Kingsley, Swan Lake and Pilot Mound and obtained her teaching certificate from Normal School in Winnipeg. She taught school at Pembina near Swan Lake, Albert District near Carman, and in Carroll near Souris. In 1963 she married Jim MacNair and moved to the Graysville area where they farmed together for 40 years and continued to live on the family farm in their retirement. Many people will remember Mom for sharing her love of music--Tempo Festival of the Arts, Central Manitoba Choral Association, Sonatrice Singers, United Church (organist for 60 years), Carman Collegiate Band Boosters, music teacher--but she was also active in the 4-H program, horticultural society, Dufferin Agriculture Society, Monarchist League, Manitoba Red Hat Society and The Selkirk Settlers Association among others. Mom was an avid gardener, a tireless visitor, Dad's perfectly matched dance partner at old time dances and an enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. According to Mom's wishes, her body has been donated for research to the University of Manitoba. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Carman United Church at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008. We invite everyone to join us for supper and visiting at Carman fair grounds (please bring lawn chairs). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mae's memory to Ovarian Cancer Canada, 145 Front St. E., Suite 101, Toronto, ON M5A 1E3 or Carman and Area Foundation, Box 160, Carman, MB R0G 0J0.
