DEBORAH ANN BARON After a long courageous battle with cancer, Debbie Baron passed away on July 28, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents Amele and Gloria and her Uncle Ronny. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Lucien; brother Robert and daughter Abby; Dale (Taylor) and his children John (Melissa) and Amanda; sister Wendy Desjarlais (Darryl) and their children Laufey and Lexie; brother Douglas (Vicki) and their children Michael, Lacey, Corey and Cody. She also leaves to mourn her Auntie Angeline Mondor, her Uncle Arnold and Auntie Mary Thera, and many beloved cousins, extended family, and long-time friends. She was born in Flin Flon, MB on July 31, 1954; the first of five children. Her family moved to Benito, and then later to Winnipeg. She was a very hard worker and held numerous jobs, the last of which was Winnipeg Old Country Sausage, where she spent 24 years. The light of her life came on March 29, 1983, when her son Lucien was born. Debbie had many interests, including cooking, camping, art, and spending time with family. It was her lifelong love of baseball that she passed along to Lucien. When he started playing baseball at Chalmers, Debbie started her coaching career. Even though he finished playing at age 15, Debbie remained involved at the community club. Over the years, she has volunteered her time in many capacities, from coaching and convening hardball and softball, to running the pre-teen dances and drop-in centre. She was also the president of Red River Hardball, and the Northeast Softball Association. Debbie's tireless dedication has touched the lives of many of the area children. Last year she was honoured by NESA with the Debbie Baron Volunteer Award . Debbie was one of the few people left in this world who would help any wayward soul in need of help. She always fought for the underdog. Debbie has touched the lives of many people, and will be missed by all. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to Dr. Harris and the staff at the Concordia Hospital, and the staff at the Palliative Care ward of the St. Boniface Hospital. Their compassion and dedication helped Debbie and her family through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Debbie's memory to St. Boniface Palliative Care, D1003-409 Taché Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1 at St. Gerard Roman Catholic Church, 45 Foster Street. Viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Danny Thera, Jim Rocchio, Bob Karavan, Cory Batenchuk, Ron Birchard, Nick Gavigan, Elliot Podolsky, and Harley Richardson.
