SAM GOLUBCHUK Mr. Sam Golubchuk, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the age of 85. Sam was a loving, caring, kind and gentle soul, a quiet, reserved and humble individual. A most devoted husband and father, son and brother, he lived in untiring dedication to his loved ones and his community. He was an active congregant and former Gabbai of the Talmud Torah - Beth Jacob Synagogue. On June 1, 2008, Sam was the honouree of the 7th Annual Fund Raising Dinner of the Synagogue. Sam was born in Vegreville, Alberta and grew up there and spent his early years in Edmonton, Estevan and Hoffer, Hirsch and Sonnenfeld colonies. During World War II, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served overseas in Holland and England. Sam ran a small grocery store in Portage la Prairie and in Winnipeg worked for Joseph Wolinsky Z L at Dominion Electric and then at Acklands, before his retirement. He leaves to mourn his untimely passing and in poignant loneliness: his daughter Miriam and son-in-law David Geller; his son Percy; his brother Dr. Moishe of Vancouver; and his sister-in-law Esther (Hershel) Karp of Skokie; as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and Mark and Danny. Sam was predeceased by his wife Dora in 1974; by his parents, Rev. Nathan and Fanny (Golfman); his sister Bertha Swartz and brother Zelik of Vancouver; his in-laws, Jacob and Leah Telpinsterin and brother-in-law Archie Telpinsterin. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 25 from the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel with Rabbi Avrohom Altein officiating. Interment was at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Martin Glazer, Neil Kravetsky, Rocky Kravetsky, Rabbi Eliyohu Simmonds, Rabbi Yaakov Simmonds and Dr. Joel Zivot. Honourary pallbearer was Joseph Wiesenthal. Shiva was observed at the Talmud Torah - Beth Jacob Synagogue. A special thank you to Dr. Joel Zivot for coming forward to treat Dad. Also many thanks to Dr. Leon Zacharowicz of New Jersey and Dr. Lou Offen of Washington for all their help. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way.
