VIOLET (VI) JEAN SHEPPARD (nee SHARPE) February 1, 1931 - July 27, 2008 On Sunday, July 27, 2008, Violet passed in her sleep at Deer Lodge Hospital, Winnipeg, from respiratory health complications. Violet will be dearly missed by her many friends; and son Christopher; grandsons Caleb, Kyle, and Levi; brother Jack; and sisters Phyllis and Doreen. Born in Essex, East London, Vi prided herself being born within the sound of Bow Bells, the claim of a true cockney St. Mary-le-Bow church holds Bow Bells which is just up the road from St. Paul's Cathedral in the City of London. She surely made all her acquaintances know of that. Violet lived to experience the Second World War Blitz of London, adding to her unique keep yer pecker up' outlook in the face of life's challenges. She followed her sister Phyllis to Canada in the mid 50s, settling near Red Deer. Violet met and married Herb Sheppard in Edmonton, AB in 1962, with her son Christopher, born later that year. The family spent much time in the rugged north of Manitoba, where Herbert worked for Manitoba Hydro Electric. Violet enjoyed staying busy with work as an Airport Weather Observer, and a key member in creating and sustaining a chapter of The Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire, a charitable organization, contributing to her community. When the family moved to Winnipeg in 1978, Violet developed a career in residential property management. Her gregarious nature and charming personality turned many business associates into friendships. She continued in this field until recent years, as health complications slowed her down. A private family remembrance is to be held at a later date.
