ALPHONSE (ALFIE) NORMAND December 23, 1933 - July 30, 2008 On Wednesday, July 30, 2008, with his family by his side, Alphonse began his final journey into the arms of the Lord. Predeceased by his parents Agnes and Wilfred, brother Emile and sister Filixine. Alphonse is survived by his wife Jeannette of 53 years; four children, son Kenny (Linda), daughters, Claudette, Lisa (Tim) and Lorraine (Robert); five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle, Joshua, Jeffrey, and Keeanna. He also leaves to mourn his great-grandchildren; brother Donat; and three sisters, Lea, Florence and Olivine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alphonse was born in Winnipeg on December 23, 1933. He attended school in St. Vital but had to begin working at an early age. He joined the Princess Patricia Light Infantry where he waited to join his brother in Korea. Alphonse loved working at jobs that took him outdoors such as Gershman Produce, Van Duncan Nurseries, Riverside Greenhouses and his favourite place, the Virginia Fontaine Solvent Abuse Centre. He enjoyed working with the young people and always had great stories to tell. He was very discouraged when he had to retire due to health reasons. He enjoyed life to the fullest. His great passions were fishing in Lake Winnipeg and attending his garden in Fort Alexander. He was happiest sitting on his deck in Pine Falls smoking his pipe. Alphonse had many friends and to be his friend was to be blessed. He cherished his family and his wife of 53 years and worried who would take care of her. No worries, Dad, she is in great hands. Our family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Palliative Care Unit (3rd Floor) for their compassion and excellent care, especially the night staff who attended Alphonse in his final hours. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at St. Timothy Parish (135 John Forsyth Road) with Father Phil Daley officiating with reception at the church hall. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. According to Alphonse's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. He is now walking the streets of Heaven His body is whole and strong His heart is filled with joy GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
