JOSEPH VICKAR With great sadness we announce the passing of Joe Vickar, 77 years. He leaves to mourn his wife and best friend of 56 years, Gnessie. His sons Wayne (Carla) Darby (Gloria) beloved grandchildren Melissa and Josh. His brothers Norman (Florence), Harry (Eve) and sister-in-law Ann. He was preceded by his parents Sam and Gella, brothers Ed (Marion) and Morris. He leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends and family. Joe was a very special person. Everyone who met him liked and respected him. He left his gentle touch on everyone. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Joe gave of his time to the community. He was nominated for outstanding Young Canadian Award, president of Rotary Clubs in Melfort and Winnipeg, president Melfort and District Board of Trade, Chairman Appeals Committee of Melfort Regional Welfare Board, Governor Kinsmen of Saskatchewan, and many more accomplishments. Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were Larry Vickar, Marty Diamond, Sam Vickar, Stephen Vickar, Aaron Vickar, Eric Vickar, Kerry Vickar, Daniel MicFlikier, Lawrence Cohen and Jack Katz. Honorary Pallbearers were Alec Pauley, Alec Sommer, Sam Bebchuck, Arnold Frieman, Sid Ackerman, David Boonov, and Chuck Weiner. We would like to thank Dr. Tony Battad and the staff of 3D North, Grace Hospital, for their kind compassionate care. Thank you to Rabbi L. Pinsker for his support. Donations can be made to Jewish Foundation, Gnessie and Joe Vickar Fund, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, or charity of choice.
