Born in Riceton, Saskatchewan, Jean grew up on her family's farm with her parents and her brothers and sisters. In 1943, Jean married Otis Mooney, also of Riceton, and together they had three children: Jefferson, Jackson and Sharon. In addition to being a devoted mother, Jean was an active volunteer with the neighbourhood United Church. As well, Jean worked as a highly proficient bookkeeper for a number of local organizations, retiring only when she was 82 years old. Jean leaves behind her devoted family her children, Jeff (Suzanne), Jackson (Mady) and Sharon; her treasured grandchildren, Brendan, Shannon, Caitlin, Christopher, Michelle, Alexandra and Erin. Jean also leaves behind her other daughter , Judy Chester, and her dear youngest brother, John (Mac) McEwen. Jean was much loved and admired for her great spirit, wonderful feistiness and loving nature. The family would like to express to the staff of 5B, St. Boniface Hospital, their heartfelt appreciation for their highly professional and loving care during the final days of Jean's long life. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make a contribution to a charity of their choice in Jean's honour. A private service will be held by the family at a later date to celebrate the life of our beloved mother and grandmother.
