Date of Passing: Jul 31, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN CHESKY (nee COLYNICK) On Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Concordia Hospital, Jean Chesky, age 87 passed away. Jean was born to Barbara Ann and Fred Colynick in Russell, Manitoba. She grew up near Russell where she met and married Alex Chesky. Jean and Alex started a family in Russell and in 1959 they moved to Winnipeg. All who knew Jean will remember what a kind, loving and generous person she was. Jean loved her crafts, and until her arthritis made it too difficult, she loved to knit, crochet and do her unbelievable needle point pictures which are treasured by those lucky enough to have received one. Jean would spend hours knitting socks and mitts for the less fortunate. Until her husbands' passing in 1999, Jean and Alex loved to travel. Their motor home was often on the go, snowbirding in Arizona, visiting old friends or taking grandchildren to hockey tryouts. Due to her health, Jean spent the last four years in Oakview Place in St. James, and later Meadowood Manor in St. Vital. Jean loved her stay in both care homes and made many new friends among both residents and staff. Jean was predeceased by her husband Alex, her parents Barbara Ann and Fred Colynick and her youngest sister Helen Deschambault of Viking, AB. Jean leaves to mourn her one sister, Mary Nazarewicz of Regina, SK; her four children, daughter Alexandra and husband Harvey of Vancouver Island; three sons, Jerry and wife Betty of Dryden, ON, and Rick and Brian of Winnipeg; two grandchildren, Barry Chesky and wife Mel of Dryden, and Darren Chesky and wife Angie also of Dryden; her three precious great-grandchildren, Jordan, Travis and Alexa, all of Dryden as well as her surviving in-laws and the many nephews, nieces and friends she loved to visit until her health would not allow it. Linda Schmidt was her very best friend. Linda was always there for Jean and faithfully visited her every week. Jean's family wishes to thank Linda for being such a good friend, as well as the staff of both Oakview Place and Meadowood Manor for their care and devotion to our mother. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors of Concordia ICU for their compassionate care of our mother in her passing. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6 at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road. Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7 also at St. Bernadette Parish. Interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
