Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNARD (BEN) MARTENS September 6, 1919 - August 4, 2008 Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Ben departed this earth on Monday afternoon, August 4, 2008 at the Grace Hospital to join his Saviour in Heaven. Left to cherish his memory is Edna, his wife of 62 years; children, Dianna (Allan) White, Judi (Doug) Lay, Ron (Fran) Martens, Steve (Trudy) Martens; grandchildren, Jon (Shar) White, Ian (Tess) White, Mike Lay, Tanya (Bruce) Redecopp, Kara (Wes) McCallum, Ryan Martens, Sean Martens, Benjamin Martens; great-grandchildren, Luke and Toby Redecopp. He is also survived by one sister Anne (Neil) Bergman; sister-in-law Sara Martens; brother-in-law Roy Kaiser and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was born and grew up in the Horndean, Manitoba area. After marriage Ben spent many years in the automotive industry starting in Morris and then in Steinbach were he raised his family. After acquiring his Power Engineering Certificate he worked first at Providence College and then in Winnipeg where he resided for the past 35 years. He enjoyed his hobbies of wood and metal-working tremendously and left us with many of his creations to enjoy and remember him by. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Kronsweide Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. If friends desire, donations can be made to the Grant Memorial Missions Program.
