DARIO PERFUMO On August 5, 2008 Dario Perfumo, aged 85 years, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Dario was born in Genoa, Italy in 1923 and at the age of three his family moved to Lorette, MB. He completed his schooling and college in Winnipeg and then served overseas with the R.C.A.F. for three years during the war. Upon returning he started in the hotel business and later built the Montcalm Motor Hotel which he then managed for 10 years. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Fort Garry Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Lotteries Commission, Board member of the Labour Board, Red River Community College Advisory Board, Tourism Advisory Board, Winnipeg Convention Centre, Chairman of the Canadian Hospitality Industry and others too numerous to mention. In 1985 he retired from the Hotel Association having held the Executive VicePresident position for 18 years. Dario loved to travel, discuss politics and play golf. He was a longtime member of St. Charles Golf Country Club. His zeal for life, the sharing of his great knowledge, his smile and his dry sense of humour will be missed by all. Dario was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Agostina and his brother-in-law Garry Moerman. He is survived by his wife Laurina; sons, Darrell, Wayne (Kim), daughter Linda (Clif); grandchildren, Jason (Christine), Jeremy, Kelsey, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kitt, his adopted families David (Irene, Kendra, Vince, Steven), Diane (Graham). Also, sisters-in-law, Corrie (Piet), Rita (John), Joan (Corny), Jenny (Arie), Dina (Dick), and many nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as many wonderful friends with special mention to Adrian Byles, Jim Collins, Bill McLennan and Rev. Don Wilson. In lieu of flowers, if people so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. According to Dario's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Westminster United Church, on August 9, 2008, at Maryland and Westminster with Rev. Dario was my great friend, supporter and political saviour at times. I remember his gap-toothed grin as we toured Europe, worked for sport, founded of what is today's enormous lottery and casino empire. Rest in peace my pal. Your smile and good heart will always be with me. GUY SIMONIS - Posted by: Guy Simonis (Friend) on: Aug 11, 2008
