RUTH GERSTEIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Gerstein at age 89, on July 24, 2008, with her family at her side. Ruth will be sadly missed by her sons, Benj (wife Rachel) and Paul (wife Sherri) and her grandchildren JJ, Aleeza and Michael. Also, her brother Dr. Sam Stedman and his wife Faye and sisters-in-law Fanny Sucharov and Lil Setnor as well as brother-in-law Nathan Gerstein as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Jack, her beloved husband in 1993 and her sister Claire Stedman, who had lived with her, who passed away in 2001. Mom's life was her family which included nieces and nephews. She was a traditional Jewish mother and became an excellent self taught cook and baker. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends for Friday night dinners as well as holidays and special occasions. Later in life she took great pride and found joy in the accomplishments and maturation of her three grandchildren. Despite declining health in later years she developed and espoused a very positive outlook, valuing each day and befriending all who crossed her path. We especially want to thank her new friends and all the staff at the Simkin Centre location of the Sharon Home for making her last two and a half years so enjoyable. Thanks also to Drs. Bernstein and Cohen and the entire staff of the Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Unit for their diligent care over the same period. Also, the nursing and support staff of Health Sciences Centre Ward 5D for their compassionate care. A special thanks must go to Dr. John Lee who was superlative in his friendship and helped uplift our and our mother's spirits in her last days. Graveside services were held July 25, 2008 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Donations if desired may be made to the Sharon Home or a charity of your choice.
