ALICE WERNER 1913 - 2008 On June 24th, at the age of 94 years, Alice Werner passed away in the loving embrace of her family. After a long productive life she leaves to mourn her son Norman (Virginia); daughter Charlotte; two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters and a brother. She celebrated over 60 years of marriage and left a legacy of caring and support. Alice tackled challenges and adventures, and travelled in Canada, US, England, Europe, Costa Rica, and special trips to Edmonton and Regina. Alice maintained contact with friends even from school days. She had unique ways of turning difficulties into advantages, and maintained a courageous attitude and a quick sense of humour until the end of her life. She respected others' rights to make their own choices, and had warm smiles for family, friends and hospital staff who recently cared for her. She said she would rather die happy than bored. Even in grief she found innovative ways to create happiness for herself and for others. She continued to surprise us with witty remarks even in her last days. Alice pursued art, music, and craft activities from childhood to recent times. Her determination to learn and explore started when a young child, including travel by herself by train to take piano lessons. She created and sold hundreds of paintings, which she exhibited in national juried and local shows. Her paintings are in the Saskatchewan Arts Board Permanent Collection in Regina as well as in the McKenzie Art Collection. She received numerous commissions for dedication ceremonies and private collections. She played the piano at family parties and at home until recent months. Alice was a woman of great inner and outer beauty and strength, who expressed her love and appreciation in imaginative ways. She worked very hard and loved to dance. She kept her body and mind active throughout her whole life. She treasured gifts and mementos. She inspired three generations with her interests. With the love and care she gave, her flowers still bloom in the garden she planted.
