ERNEST SLUTCHUK It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Ernest Slutchuk on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the age of 66. Ernest is survived by his loving wife Donna; his children, Marlon Slutchuk (Anna), Cheryl-Lee Slutchuk (Jason), Debbie Palay, Jeff Steinberg (Jocelyn), and Kevin Steinberg; and grandchildren, Sam, Zahra, Joshua, Zachary, Samantha, Jaidyn and Jordyn. He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Norma, Lorna (David), Marlene (Al), George (Barbara), Marvin (Faith), Rhoda (Ben); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lynn (Wayne), Barry (Jeannie); and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as, countless friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents Tamara and Alex and sister Miriam. Born August 15, 1941, Ernest grew up in the north end of Winnipeg. He remained proud and true to his roots. His early work years began in Transcona at Berkal's Menswear and Tailor Shop. He later went on to manage several restaurants for Champs Food Systems. For over 28 years Ernest worked at Westwin Food Equipment, following which, at the age of 66 he began a new career at Pratt's Food Service Restaurant Supplies. Ernest and Donna were inseparable. Together they took great pride in their house and yard - creating a loving home in which they hosted many family gatherings. Ernest was the most devoted father. There wasn't anything in the world that would prevent Ernest from being there for his children. He will always be their Superman. Ernest's greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his seven grandchildren. Each one of them had a unique relationship with their Zaida Ernest. Ernest enjoyed his many years as an actor in theatre, commercials, TV, and feature films including The Outside Chance of Maximillian Glick. Ernest will be remembered for his humour and laughter that touched all who knew him. He was a compassionate, loving person who remained strong to the core and took life seriously. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with Rabbi Pinsker, Cantor Mass and Marvin Slutchuk officiating. Pallbearers were Jason Olynyk, Sean Slutchuk, Daniel Adelman, Michael Palay, Fivie Gunn and Larry Brown. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. 949-2000
