WILLIAM THOMAS LOFTUS Bill was born on June 21, 1916 and passed away August 6, 2008 at Grace Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife June, his son Bill of Winnipeg and grandson Willie and his wife Paulette of Nova Scotia. Bill was predeceased by his parents Edna and William Loftus. Bill grew up and had his schooling in Norwood, attended University of Manitoba and took flying lessons at Winnipeg Flying Club. In 1941 Bill married June Edgar and they went to live in Fort William, ON, where Bill was a flying instructor with the British Commonwealth Air Training School #2 E.F.T.S. during the war. He then was employed as a pilot with Trans Canada Airlines (now Air Canada) and flew as a Captain out of Winnipeg until retiring in 1963. The next five years were spent working with the NDP government. He was a kind man and a member of the United Church. He enjoyed many hobbies, one of which was building boats. He was a Commodore of the Redboine Boating Club, belonged to the Eagles in St. Norbert and was a Ham radio operator VE4TL. He built their house along the La Salle River near La Salle, MB and he and June lived there for nearly 20 years before moving back to Winnipeg. A private graveside service will take place in St. Vital Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception in celebration of Bill's life at Sterling House, 909 Wilkes Avenue on Tuesday, August 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Bill can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
