July 10, 1947 August 7, 2008 Peacefully, but unexpectedly and surrounded by his family, Alex passed away at Beausejour Hospital the morning of Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the age of 61. Alex will be deeply missed and remembered by his loving wife Lorna of 38 years of marriage. Cherishing Alex's memories are his daughter, Dianna (Andrew) Gibbons; grandchildren, Steven, Ashlynn, Gavin and Shaylynn; son Glenn and grandson Conally; sisters, Marlene (Mike) Hnatishin, Joanie (Jerry) Horrock, Anny (Roman) Horrock, Donna (Barry) Wizbicki, Sandra Denchuk, Linda Plikett; brother Wayne; mother-in-law Eva Chuhie; brother-in-law Chappy (Philip) (Cary) Chuhie; sisters-in-law: Joyce Banash, Anna (Richard) Recksiedler, Valerie (Arther) Recksiedler, Deborah (Ed) Westphal, Theresa (Peter) Lagodkin, Patricia (Ian) Wallis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Alex Stelmaschuk; brothers Phillip and David; father-in-law William Chuhie; brother-in-law Paul Banash; and nephew Kyle Recksiedler. Alex was born and raised in Garson, MB. When married, Alex and Lorna chose to raise their family in Garson. They worked very hard and developed the land in creating their beautiful home. Their home is always welcoming to everyone. Alex was always busy. Working at CN Rail and working his farm, which was his passion. Even after retiring after 30 years as a pipefitter from CN Rail, he still kept busy. Fixing this, building that, hilling potatoes, working the farm, always helping others. He made time for everyone. He would give the shirt off his back...ever been to Alex's Hardware? His pride and joy were his five grandchildren. One could see the love in his eyes as his face lit up when he saw them or spoke of them. Prayers will be sung on Monday evening, August 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB. Alex's funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. also in the Church, with Rev. Deacon Stefan Tyrawski, presider. Interment will follow in the St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Tyndall, MB. Pallbearers will be Alex's brothers-in-law: Ed Westphal, Richard Recksiedler, Arther Recksiedler, Jerry Horrock, Roman Horrock and cousin Ron Stelmaschuk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alex's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
