Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA MALEGUS (nee SLOTA) Peacefully, on August 8, 2008 at the Concordia Hospital, our beloved mother and grandmother, Lena Malegus, passed away at age 95 years. Lena was born on June 3, 1913 and resided in Oakbank her entire life. Lena was predeceased by her husband John in 1998, her sisters, Annie Petrocowich and Mary Botchar; brothers, John, Nick, Sam and Peter Slota. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her son George Malegus, daughter Marie (Stanley) Wojtowicz and grandchildren, Amber and Gerrett. Mom was born in Springfield and in 1942 married John Malegus. They lived near Oakbank, where they farmed and raised their family. Mom's joy came from looking after her family, preparing meals for friends and relatives and of course, tending to her garden, where she would spend endless hours tending to her flowers and vegetables. Mom's greatest joy came from her grandchildren, Amber and Gerrett, whom she adored. Mom loved visitors and always tried to extend her hospitality to all who came. This was especially true on Sundays, that were kept for going to church in the morning, followed by visiting with family and friends whenever possible. Baba will be forever remembered for her excellent meals and her welcoming manner to all. Prayers will be offered Thursday evening, August 14, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel 1800 Day Street. Divine Liturgy to follow on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Cooks Creek. Rev. Msgr. Fr. Taras Kowch presiding. Interment to follow at the Birds Hill Park Cemetery. The family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff of N1 North at the Concordia Hospital, who have looked after Mom since January. In lieu of flowers, please offer your prayers for the sick. Vichnaya Pam'Yat Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
