Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHEATHER RIFFEL (nee YORK) Peacefully at home on Sunday, August 10, 2008 with her family at her side, Heather passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. Mom will be greatly missed but always remembered by her daughter Tami, son Rob wife Wendy, and grandchildren Michael and Evan, as well as numerous relatives, friends and co-workers. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dick in 1992. Mom was born in Winnipeg on September 15, 1941. She worked at St. Benedict's Monastery for 30 years, retiring in September of 2007. Mom loved her summers at Netley Creek with her husband, family and friends. She was also well known for her perogies, peanut cookies, cinnamon twists and crocheting afghans for friends and family. Her favourite pastime though was the time she spent with her grandchildren Mike and Evan, whether it be driving them to school in her grandma mobile or cheering them on at their various sporting events. She cherished the time that she spent with them and they adored her. Mom touched many lives over the years with her compassion and sense of humour. She was always there to lend a helping hand or brighten your day with a good practical joke. She had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and welcome in her home or at the lake. Even in the darkest hours of her terrible illness, mom kept her sense of humour often cracking a one liner or giving someone the look . Cancer took her body but couldn't touch her spirit. Thank you to all who called or visited Mom in the hospital and at home, you really made a difference. Special thanks to Aunt Joan, Uncle Ernie and Karen for your love and support throughout mom's illness. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. April Boyd, staff of Ward GA3 Health Sciences Centre, Harriet and Pam from Palliative Care. The love and compassion that you showed mom in her difficult time is immeasurable. You truly are special people. Memorial service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
