WALTER HYRA Peacefully after a brief illness at Oakview Place Nursing Home our beloved brother Walter passed away at the age of 81 years on Friday, August 8, 2008. Remaining to forever cherish Walter's memory are his sisters Carrie, Lillian, and Evelyn, brother Emil; his children Joanne, Randy, David, Ken and Cindy. He was predeceased by his parents John and Jean Hyra; sister Donna; and brother Mike. Walter was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1927 but grew up in Angusville, Manitoba. Later he moved to Winnipeg where he worked for the City of Winnipeg (Works and Operations) for over 25 years retiring as a supervisor. Walter played on many senior Manitoba fastball leagues (Carter Motors, Vita Mallards, etc.) and was inducted into the Manitoba Hall of Fame. Walter's funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 4:00 p.m. in the Lakedale Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Angusville, Manitoba, with Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk, presiding. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Oakview Place staff for their compassion and care of our brother.
