GERARD MAUWS Peacefully, after a courageous battle, Gerard passed away on August 12, 2008 at the Victoria General Hospital. Gerard was born in Swan Lake, MB on June 30, 1924. After marrying Julie Fifi in 1944, Gerard farmed in Altamont, Cypress River, Holland and Swan Lake. Gerard worked as a meat cutter at the B B store in Swan Lake for many years, where he was known for preparing excellent cuts of meat. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1974 where Gerard continued to cut meat for Econo Mart and IGA. Dad was known for pride in good work. His customers knew that he would give them good service. Dad enjoyed interacting with his customers as he was friendly and interested in people. Our dad loved a good laugh and liked to joke with us. He was a very devoted man, missing his wife until the day he died. Family was very important to dad. He kept pictures of his children and grandchildren near him at all times, and loved seeing them. Dad loved to talk about his farming days, especially about his horses which he loved. We will miss chatting with dad over coffee and timbits. The family wishes to thank Meadowood Manor staff for their special care of our dad. They made sure he was always comfortable and happy. We also wish to mention the good care our dad received at the Victoria Hospital where staff made sure dad was comfortable in his last days. Gerard was predeceased by his wife Julie in 1995. He is survived by his daughters, Christine (Roger) Wanlin of Winnipeg, Valerie (Wayne) DeJaegher of Winnipeg; sons, Jerome (Eveline) of Winnipeg, Allen (Lucille) of Boissevain, Murray (Diane) of Minnedosa, Steven (Bernice) of Winnipeg and Kevin (Dale) of Winnipeg; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Martha Foidart and Madeline Lanouette. Prayers will be said on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Bernadette Parish.
