EVA MARIA ZAWADOWSKI (nee MARTINI) On Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Seven Oaks Hospital, with her daughter by her side, Eva Zawadowski, aged 87 years, beloved Mother and Oma. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her daughter Rose (Robert), grandchildren Randelle and Rochelle Dziadekwich and Erica and Courtney Zawadowski, Mary Zawadowski and family in Winnipeg, Anton Martini and family in Germany, Margie Dwyer and Henry Zawadowski and families in Connecticut, USA, Katie Maude and family in Ontario, and many extended family members in Germany and Poland. She was predeceased by her husband Nick and son Rolf. Eva was born April 20, 1921 in Beckersdorf, Poland. She endured many hardships throughout her life beginning with the loss of her mother at the age of seven, her father in 1960, and seven of her eight siblings. After fleeing her homeland due to war, she settled in Celle, Germany. In 1953, she immigrated to Canada and married our father on April 6, 1953. She lived in Whitemouth, Manitoba, where Rolf and Rose were born until 1965, when the family relocated to Chalmers Avenue in Winnipeg. Eva was a wonderful mother and was very proud of her children; always there to guide and support us on our life's way. Most of her work life, she was employed at Holy Family Nursing Home, a job she loved, and from which she retired in 1987. Retirement found Eva happily working in her garden, tending to her flowers and taking trips to Germany and traveling with Opa. After the birth of her granddaughters, she became a loving Oma who would spend every second she could with her greatest joy, the grandkids. The loss of Opa in 1998 left a huge void in her life, and necessitated moving to Donwood Manor EPH. The death of her beloved son Rolf in 2007 broke her heart and spirit, a loss from which she never recovered. The last few months of her life were spent at Seven Oaks Hospital, where she was lovingly cared for by the staff on 3 Unit 12. Oma leaves a legacy of devotion to her family, kindness and love of all things living. As a mother, her faith and steadfast love were fashioned by the angels, and sent to us as a gift from God above. May Oma rest in peace knowing how much she was loved. Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 300 Donalda Street with Brother Jorge Villegas celebrating. Viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. to time of service. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, 2300 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2V 9Z9. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
