MELVIN BARNEY JOHNSON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, brother, stepson, uncle and dear friend, Melvin Johnson, aged 56 years, of Fort Nelson, BC on August 11, 2008. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Melanie (Cliff), Cheryl and Harley; daughter-in-law Brandy; stepfather Norman; brothers and sisters, Harvey (Lenore), Sharon (Albert), Sandra (Sylvain), Doreen (Stuart), David (Marcel) and Marvin (Kim); nine grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; Vivian and Shirley, mothers of his children; and Joanie who was there for Mel for many years. Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Haraldur Johnson and Dorothy Kroken; his son, Dustin; one granddaughter and nephew. Melvin was born and raised in Riverton, Manitoba, where he spent most of his childhood and younger years. As an adult he worked as a heavy equipment operator in northern communities as well as other provinces. Mel's work as a heavy equipment operator was his passion and he took great pride in all his accomplishments and a job well done. Mel was very proud of his aboriginal roots and beliefs and attended many cultural events. Mel had a very big heart and always tried to help out whenever he could. He was a positive role model to the younger generation in the construction industry. In the early 1990s, Mel was employed with Eh-Cho-Dene Enterprises in northern British Columbia and made Fort Nelson his home where he lived and worked until his passing. A memorial service was held on Friday, August 15, 2008 in Fort Nelson, BC in a favourite park of Mel's. Burgeron Funeral Home in Dawson Creek, BC was in care of the cremation. Mel will be brought back to Manitoba to his final resting place. A memorial service will be held in Manitoba at a later date for family and friends. Those wishing can contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
