ARLEEN SIGURVEIG LONG (nee BJARNASON) March 30, 1941 - August 13, 2008 Peacefully with her family and best longtime friend Janet at her side, passed away at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario. She was predeceased by her parents Johan and Kristine. Arleen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Brian of 46 years. She was a muched loved mother to daughters Caryl, Corrine and husband Al, son Darren and proud and loving 'Mama' to her cherished grandson Justin who she said made a difference in her life . Fond memories will be forever held by her brother Blair as well as many other treasured family members and many friends. Arleen was born and educated in Winnipeg, MB. She held various positions at the T. Eaton Company for many years. Later she had the desire to become a hair stylist and through hard work and dedication fulfilled her aspirations when she graduated from the Scientific School of Beauty in 1981. Icelandic heritage, instilled by her parents and relatives, was of great importance in Arleen's life. The annual Icelandic festival in Gimli, MB was a most enjoyed event for her with much anticipation to sample the many delicious Icelandic foods. Arleen and her family spent many summers camping at Long Lake Camp Ground, Detroit Lakes, until deciding to settle closer to home at Spruce Sands Trailer Resort for the last 28 years. She treasured the BBQs with her family and friends were always welcome to attend. Taking care of animals was a great love of Arleen's and would often welcome strays into her home. She assisted bringing many of her own animals as well as the neighbour's pets into the world. Sometimes she would refer to her home as Aunt Sally's Farm . Her love for helping seniors was apparent with her weekly visits to their homes to style their hair. During her battle with cancer she voiced her concern about not being there for them, showing her true caring manner and thoughtfulness. The family would like to express their utmost thanks to Dr. A. Gupta and the nursing staff in the Palliative Care ward at Credit Valley Hospital for their loving, exceptional care, comfort and compassion during her hospital stay. A memorial service to celebrate Arleen's life will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. (204) 925-1120.
