MARY ANN ROMAN October 17, 1924 - August 13, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Roman on August 13, 2008 at the Beausejour Hospital. Mary was predeceased by her parents Anna and Michael Urbanowich, her first husband Peter Roman, and her second husband Nick Werstiuk. Mom will be dearly missed by her children: Diana (Jon) Popowich, Robert Roman, Camie (Keith) Abas, and Floyd (Sylvie) Roman. Baba also leaves to mourn her grandchildren: Tyler Abas, Crystal Roman, Travis Abas, Vannessa Roman, Tamara Abas, and Jennifer Roman. Mary will be fondly remembered by her sisters Natalie Boily, Rose (Eugene) Domshy, and Helen Lawrence, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by many friends, in particular Dorothy Hokinson, Lillian Arsenault, and Dorothy Weselowski. Mary was born in Berazow, Poland to Anna and Michael Urbanowich and immigrated to Canada in 1930. She lived on a Dallas homestead until she married Peter in 1944 and moved to Hodgson. Widowed in 1979, she married Nick in 1984 with whom she lived happily until his death. Mary was an avid volunteer at the Percy E. Moore Hospital from 1979 to 1998, where she managed the gift shop. She also taught Ukrainian for adults for three years. Gardening, sewing, cooking, canning, and making perogies and jams were some of the things for which she was famous. Mom's generosity was demonstrated through the distribution of her many homemade goods. Mary thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family members, especially her grandchildren. Mary faithfully served Jehovah since 1955, holding a firm belief in the resurrection hope. Acts 24:15 - and I have hope toward God, which hope these (men) themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation towards Dr. Garth Campbell and the nursing staff at Beausejour Hospital for the wonderful care they provided for Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Selkirk Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses or her charity of choice, CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 12 Hawthorne Place, Selkirk, Manitoba with Richard Downing officiating. Interment to follow in East Selkirk. Pallbearers are Floyd Roman, Jon Popowich, Keith Abas, Tyler Abas, Crystal Roman, and Travis Abas. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
