LILLIAN VESEY (nee DUNN) Surrounded by love, Lillian Lottie Evangeline (Dunn) Vesey passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 at Lions Personal Care Centre at the age of 87. (Mom some of your friends still think you are 85). Remembering her with love and laughter are: sister Betty Hunt of Toronto, children Linda Wiebe (Werner) and Norman Vesey (Nancy); grandchildren Kim Wiebe, Heather Hancox (Richard), Peter Wiebe (Krista), Michelle Vesey (Chris Millard); great-grandchildren Brittany, Jessica, Dylan and Brooke; along with many family and friends too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and her many siblings. Lillian was born on July 3, 1921 in Neepawa; she was the twelfth of thirteen children. While growing up in Neepawa, Lillian was the goalie for the Neepawa Nips. No one got the puck past her. She met Frank in 1939 in Red Lake, Ontario and they married in l941 at Bill and Belle's home in Winnipeg. Lillian and Frank spent the first few years of their married life on McKenzie Island, Ontario. From there they moved to Nesbitt, Manitoba and then on to Winnipeg. The life she built with Frank and their children was her pride and joy; she enjoyed every minute of it. Lillian was known for her entertaining, we all loved her special scones, homemade soup, goop on a bun , chocolate chip cookies, sex in a pan, Auntie Bec's slice and her capacity to feed unexpected guests on the spot. Lillian's sense of humour was known by all; she always had the best jokes. We all enjoyed receiving her made with love knitted mitts and sweaters on which she spent countless hours. She was a great curler, never missed the broom and was envied for her draw weight. Mom spent some time in the chorus of the Sweet Adelines and took up golf as her later in life hobby. Despite drinking only milk at her wedding she graduated to her rye press which was later modified to rye and water. Happy Hour began sharp at 5:00! In their later years Lillian and Frank travelled extensively and spent many enjoyable years at their cottage in Long Lake, Manitoba. We wish to personally thank Lillian's sister Jean Simmons, her niece Liz Pats and Lillian's best friend Alice Bissett for their weekly visits over the last few years. Her nephew Al Simmons dropped in often and stayed to feed Mom and serenade her with his harmonica. We also want to extend our gratitude to the Lions PCC for their care, compassion and love to Lillian over the past eight years; your kindness will never be forgotten. Lillian was a joy to have in our lives. In accordance with Lillian's wishes there will be no formal service; a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lillian's memory to: The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or Lions Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6.
