MARGARET LODGE It is with utmost sadness that on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Victoria Hospital, our wonderful Mom, Margaret Lodge, peacefully but unexpectedly passed away. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Denzil, her sister, Evelyn and brother-in-law, Bill Hornbeck. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Marjorie Stevens (Kerry) and Maureen Lodge-Zaparnick (Steve), her grandchildren, Matthew, Kerri, Ashley, Christopher and Whitney, Aunty Vee, the Hornbeck and Lodge families, her relatives in England and all her friends, old and new , whose lives she touched in different ways. Mom was born February 24, 1922, to Phoebe and Harry Spottiswood. Her parents owned a small grocery store on Ellice Ave., so growing up she spent a lot of time helping her parents. After graduating from Gordon Bell High School she worked for Crescent Creamery, where she met the love her life, Denzil. She was his Little Margie and he used to sing to her all the time. They married on June 27, 1942. Shortly after, dad left for England because of the war and Mom would not see him again for two and half years. Mom loved music, dancing and singing. She had a beautiful voice, sang at weddings and was choir director at Our Lady of Victory for many years. She taught herself to play the piano and had a natural talent to play by ear. She thoroughly enjoyed the many wonderful sing-alongs with family and friends. As we were growing up Mom worked for Eaton's for many years. She later worked at the U of M, first in payroll, then as secretary to Professor Henry in the Awards office until she retired. During retirement Mom volunteered at the Manitoba Museum, learned Tai Chi, knit, traveled with Dad, took care of her grandchildren, and had fun with her Bridge Club friends. She was such a gracious person and made friends wherever she went. But most of all, family was everything to Mom. All our life every occasion was special. It was important to be together and she made that happen. She was always there for us and could never do enough for us. She just had so much love and so many hugs to give. She was such a wonderful Mom and Grandma, touching each of her grandchildren's lives in special ways. Her love was unconditional. Cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration will be held, Tuesday, August 19 at 2:00p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. We love you so much Mom and will miss you always. We will never forget you, don't worry. A favorite poem of Mom's: A Song is not a Song until you sing it A Bell is not a Bell until you ring it, Love is not put in your heart there to stay Because Love is not Love till you give it away!
