MARY ANN YAKEM Peacefully Mary passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, MB. She was predeceased by her husbands, Mike Yakem and Jack Kunderman (1948), parents Joseph and Carolyn Schreyer, brother Joseph, sister Kathleen, stepson James Yakem and grandson Jeff Kunderman. She is survived by her son Don Kunderman (Pat), stepson Ted Yakem, brother George Schreyer and half brothers and sisters Peter (Diane), Edward (Irene), Cecelia (Wilbert), Adele (Howard), Lawrence and Caroline, her grandchildren Barbara Stevens (Dan) and Greg Kunderman (Kelly) and eight great-granddaughters Brittany, Amanda, Vanessa, Michelle, Kelsey, Taylor, Lindsay and Jennifer. Mary was born September 19, 1914 in Ladywood, MB. She married Jack Kunderman and lived on the farm until Jack passed away. She later married Mike Yakem and moved to Glenfields and then to Lac du Bonnet in 1955. Mary worked at the Lakeview Hotel, retiring after 28 years. She was a founding member of the Lac du Bonnet Horticultural Society with her friend Olga Urban. Her love of flowers brought her many awards at flower shows. She also belonged to the Lily Society and Friends of the Conservatory. Mary enjoyed participating with the Kitchen Band in parades and at personal care homes. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Rebeccas and the Pioneer Club. She received a Community Service Award for her volunteer work in the community. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame du Lac Roman Catholic Church in Lac du Bonnet, MB. A special thank you to the staff at the East Gate Lodge Personal Care home for their care and support and the many kindnesses extended to Mary during her four year stay. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Lac du Bonnet Horticultural Society.
