CECILIA WOOD DAVIES March 20, 1922 - August 8, 2008 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Cecilia on August 8, 2008, at the age of 86 in Nanaimo, BC. Her heart slowly failed and she died peacefully, with her family able to say farewell. Cecilia was born and raised in Winnipeg, where she married Harold, and was mother to Bob and Jim. They lived in Norwood, then St. Vital. She loved entertaining friends and family and her home was always full of laughter, music and great food. Cecilia enjoyed a full and active life; living her strongest values - family, honesty and helping others. She was very dedicated to young people as a teacher, CGIT leader, YWCA swimming teacher and as Harold's right hand in pediatric practice. While active in Kinsmen, Cecilia became National Chair of Kinettes. With her friend Doris Law, she operated the gift shop at St. Boniface Hospital and went on to the Board of the Research Foundation. For 10 years she was managing hostess of massive receptions to honour well-known supporters of the Foundation: Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, Dr. Christiaan Barnard, Sir Edmund Hilary and Dr. Jonas Salk, among others. With Harold, Cecilia travelled widely abroad and all over North America. They enjoyed a busy cottage life at Falcon Lake for 40 years, a bustling centre of fun for family and friends. For her last 14 years Cecilia lived in retirement on Vancouver Island, exchanging the Prairies for the ocean, forests and mountains of British Columbia. She bravely endured a series of strokes in the last four years. Many thanks to the tender care provided by staff at Malaspina Gardens. Family members remaining to cherish her memory are Harold, Bob, Lila, Robb, Joel, Jim, Donna, Lori, Harley, Cara, Tara, Cole, Kaden and Rhyanna. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation would be a welcome tribute to her memory. A private memorial service will be held in Winnipeg in mid-September.
