CATHERINE LEONTOWICH Catherine Leontowich, aged 99 years, passed away at home, Malaspina Gardens, Nanaimo B.C.- July 25, 2008. Born in Winnipeg, April 13, 1909 at home at 88 Eaton St.; she lived there until June 1994. Catherine went to Elmwood school up to grade 5. Catherine started working at the age of 14; also worked at the hospital when she was 17; delivering food trays, cleaning, etc. Also worked for a Dr. Stevenson and wife who was a Russian opera singer. Catherine started working for the Western Glove Sewing Factory in Winnipeg, April 1940; sewing, then became an examiner: Catherine retired at 65, April 1974, 34 years of service, her employer asked her to stay on. Catherine was predeceased by her father Semeon, 1936, 59 years; mother Mary, 1971, 91 years, sister Jessie Kozy, 1980, 69 years; sister Ann Bialkoski, 1991, 75 years, brother John, 1995, 82 years; also brother Fred and sister Mary died young; nephew Kenneth Carl Bialkoski, 1957 to 1958; brother-in-law Nick Kozy, 1980, 78 years; brother-in-law, Paul Bialkoski, 2008, 91 years, nephew Dennis Chang, 1992, 49 years, niece Shirley Kozy, 2007, 73 years. Catherine leaves behind her nieces Leona and Wayne Whiting, Cathy and Duncan Tait, Barbara and Dave Zapshala, Nanaimo; nephews- Dennis Bialkoski- Salmo B.C.; Barry and Roxanne-Bialkoski, Rohnert Park CA; Fred and Donna Bialkoski, Wasa B.; Fred Kozy- Hawaii; 14 great nieces and nephews; 15 great- great nieces and nephews.
