WESLEY JOHNSTON TURNER 1944 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather Wes on August 16, 2008, at the Portage District General Hospital, with his family at his side. He will be deeply missed by his wife Karen, sons Darren, Scott (Stacy), Ryan (Stacie), and daughter Chelsey, as well as grandsons Nicholas, Josh, Clarke and Hudson. Wes is also survived by siblings Florence Turner, Eileen Jones, Everett (Diane), Jean Shelvey, Margaret (Russell) Ferris, Dorothy (Richard) Demkey, Kathleen MacMillan, Bev (Glen) Young, Gordon (Val), Ed, Donna (Laurie) Harp, Pat (Bill) Enns, Trevor (Diane), Bert and sister-in-law Helen Turner, as well as Karen's sisters Barb (Brian) Kitching, Val (Gordon) Turner and Chris McKee, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ormey and Alice Turner, brother Robert, brothers-in-law Orval Jones, Bill MacMillan, Mike McKee and Karen's parents Jack and Jean Bowman. Wes was born at MacGregor May 1, 1944. In December 1968, he married Karen Bowman. Wes enjoyed a number of employment opportunities, which allowed him to travel northern and western Canada, even as far as Alert. Trans Canada Pipeline was a long time employer. The last few years, Wes enjoyed his work and made many friends at Agassiz Youth Centre, until he had to take medical leave in 2006 due to his illness. In the community, Wes was an avid supporter of sports, especially Minor Hockey that led to many hours watching hockey at the local arena and socializing with everyone. He was also a member of the MacGregor Lion's Club. Since his illness, he and Karen were able to enjoy some travel, and he was always anxious to share his experiences, the highlight being a family trip to Disney World. His strength during his illness was admired by many. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, particularly his grandchildren, with whom he spent many happy hours. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the MacGregor United Church, MacGregor, MB. Interment will follow in the MacGregor Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Wes's name to the ALS Society of Manitoba, Room N108, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3.
