HELEN VICTORIA LOEPPKY March 14, 1935 - August 15, 2008 Peacefully and with family, Helen Loeppky passed away at home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Helen is survived by her sons, Cam (Cindy) and Greg (Cathy), her granddaughters, Lorissa, Jessica and Jaden; her brother, Henry (Nell). She is also survived by her in-laws Bob and Doreen Loewen, Bill and Barb Toews and Vern and Gerri Loeppky. She leaves to mourn her nieces and nephews, Val, Jer (Connie), Rob (Melanie), Darryl (Meredith), Shawna, Ryan (Baolinh), Chris, Jason, David (Patrycia), Rick (Karen), Joan (Don), Rob (Cheryl) and Ron. Helen was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2003, father Joseph in 1965, her mother Mary in 1988 and her brother Ed in 1994. Helen was born in Lac du Bonnet, started her schooling in various small towns in Manitoba where her father taught school, and finally moved to Winnipeg for grade 10 at the age of 15. She attended St. Mary's Academy for grade 10 and completed High School at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. After attending business college, Helen started her career working for Dr. Brown as an office assistant. She then accepted a job working for Dr. Ludwig as his assistant for a number of years. In 1963, she married the love of her life, Bob Loeppky and in 1965 and 1969 her two sons were born. Helen stayed home to raise her two sons and enjoyed the balance of her home career as an arts and crafts hobbyist. Helen took pride in her family and valued the many quality friendships she had built throughout her life. Known for her cooking and beautifully set table, Helen paid attention to every detail. Throughout her five year battle, she remained independent and refused to accept anything but getting better. She has been a role model for her children and her strength will not be forgotten. We would like to thank Dr. Dabrowska, Helen's Oncologist, for all her help and support. Also a special thanks to all the nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital Cancer Care for everything they do. We would like to sincerely thank all of Helen's friends and neighbours who offered her support and kindness over the past few years. Honorary pallbearers will be her six pack of special close friends - Bev Penner, Vi Williams, Darlene Foster-Vurmette, Rose Donahue and Gina Boily. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Helen's memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. 675 McDermot Ave Room ON1160, Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9. We will miss you Mom.
