ALIGHIERO SUSMEL Peacefully on August 18, 2008, surrounded by those he loved most, Ali Susmel passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Ali was born in Fiume, Italy in 1933 and came to Canada in 1957. One of his biggest joys was dancing, which led him to the love of his life, Rosalie. Over the next years, they enjoyed travelling, cooking, entertaining and golfing. With his failing health, Ali did not go too far from home but looked forward to his many visits to the Pony Corral, especially on the sunny days when he sat on the patio. Ali often spoke of the fun he had at the farm with his grandsons when they were young, and was very proud to watch them grow up to be responsible, hardworking young men. Ali will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 24 years, Rosalie; step-daughters, Deborah (Mike), Lori (George); grandsons, Nick (Kara), Chris (Carla), Andrew and great-grandchildren, Ivy, Hailey and Zackarie. He is survived by sisters, Edda, Ada (Nino), Odetta and their families in Trieste, Italy and sister Ordinaire in Australia. Brother-in-law, Steve (Leah) of Sparwood, BC, sister-in-law, Carol Ann of Mexico and nieces, Ashley and Nicole, nephew Brent, as well as his many friends and neighbours. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Brendan McCarthy and the wonderful nursing staff of the MSICU (E2) at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and care given to Ali during his final days. As well, we would like to extend our thanks for the kindness and support given to us, Ali's family. In accordance with Ali's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
