Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE MARGARET VIDLER (nee WILLSON) Florence Margaret (Peg) Vidler passed away peacefully, of natural causes, on August 15, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto. She was 89 years old and had been a resident of The Grenadier Retirement Home for the past eight years. Peg was born in Winnipeg on June 24, 1919, a daughter of the late Leslie A. and the late Florence (Wright) Willson, and grew up on Lyle Street in the neighbourhood known as St. James. A graduate of Balmoral Hall, she worked as a dental assistant until her marriage to Raymond A. Vidler on November 30, 1940. A lifelong member of the United Church, she was active in the Meals on Wheels program and, in later life worked as a geriatric assistant until her retirement in 1984. Peg also brought comfort to others in her retirement working as a volunteer in a palliative care hospital. Mrs. Vidler is survived by sons, Mervyn Arthur Vidler (a.k.a. Chuck McCoy) of Toronto, Norman Willson Vidler (a.k.a. Gary Russell) of White Rock, BC, Raymond Jeffrey Vidler and his wife Leslie of Toronto; son-in-law Keith Critchley of Calgary and sister-in-law Pauline Shelley of Toronto. Peg will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Douglas, Tanis and Heidi from Alberta, Jacqueline, Marianne, Michael, Amanda and Charles of Vancouver and Campbell and James of Toronto. Peg leaves behind great-grandchildren, Andrea, Carson, Craig and Erica, all from Alberta. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 36 years on November 7, 1976 and by her daughter Elsabeth Critchley on July 10, 1996. Peg was also predeceased by her brothers, Bill and Art and sister Beth. Peg was someone who gave unconditional love and encouragement and always saw the good in people. A pillar of strength for her husband and children, she leaves a powerful and enlightened imprint on the lives of those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff at The Grenadier for their love and care, as well as the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital who gave Peg comfort during the last days of her life. Peg's final resting place will be beside her beloved husband Raymond at The Royal Oak Cemetery in Victoria, BC. A memorial service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, 1-800-616-3311 on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
