Date of Passing: Aug 23, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY JEAN BLACKWELL It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Dorothy Jean Blackwell, nee Watson on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rusty (Sue), Jacki (Paul), Wendie (Mike) and Gary (Barb); her grandchildren (who were her pride and joy) Dayna, Matthew, Derek, Perry, Chelsea, Dee Dee, Dakota, Eric, Hannah and Jenny. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Belton; nieces Kim Linda and Lori (Doug); nephew Thomas; and very good friends Trudy, Rose and Eleanor. Dorothy chose teaching as a profession and she was really great at it. She loved teaching and was always able to find the inner good in all the students she taught. As an avid outdoors person she participated in many outdoor education trips with students. She took numerous groups of youth horseback riding, camping and hiking. She will be remembered by students as Mrs. B. She enjoyed playing crib with her fellow teachers in the staff room during lunch hour. She could even boast about the perfect 29 hand she had during one of her many games. When Dorothy retired from teaching she never sat still. She remained in-touch with children by joining Scouts Canada as a Beaver Leader. She became known to many as Moonbeam. Dorothy had so much fun in Scouts she convinced her sister Ruth to join as well. Soon Moonbeam and Stardust were always on the go. They attended many Provincial and National Jamborees together and made very special memories. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Boniface General Hospital. The doctors, nurses and orderlies were kind and compassionate. She had the best of care. As per Dorothy's wishes there will be a private gathering to celebrate her life. Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.
