CHARLES (CHUCK) BLACK
Date of Passing: Aug 25, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES (CHUCK) BLACK Peacefully on August 25, 2008 our father, grampa and great-grampa passed away at Victoria Hospital at the age of 93 after suffering a stroke on August 12. He joins his wife and best friend Doris who passed away on August 25, 1998. He was also predeceased by his eldest son Jim, his brothers Stan and Bill, his sisters Marjorie and Madge and the mother of his three sons, Emma. Sadly, left to mourn his passing are his sons Gary (Betty), Don (Linda), grandchildren Denny (Ainsley) Jennifer, Terry, Tyler (Julie), Lindsay (Tim) and Jason as well as great-granddaughters Trinity, Cadence and Amy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and will be missed by his daughter-in-law Susan and his stepdaughter Arlene. Dad served his country overseas in the Second World War and shortly after returning to Winnipeg, settled in St. Vital. He spent many years working as a butcher for Eaton's, all the while running a greenhouse and garden on his property. He moved on to work for Burlington Northern Railway and remained there until his retirement in 1980. Dad and Doris enjoyed their retirement years together, travelling to Texas in the winters and spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Minaki during the summer months, where fishing, refreshments on the deck, a great barbecue supper and a variety of card games were the order of the day. A highlight for them both was a summer road trip to Alaska - a trip that made lasting memories for them both. Dad had a quick wit, a strong work ethic, and a big heart. He loved to joke and tease, enjoyed his dinners out with a nice glass of wine, and took great pride in his rock garden at Minaki. He was very proud of his children and his grandchildren and has left us all with very special memories. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Lipson, Dr. Pacin, and the staff at the Victoria Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Dad during his last days, and to the staff at the Waverly Retirement Community where Dad has lived for the past six years. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
