DAVID KORN F.C.A. It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of David Korn beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Born in Winnipeg on February 25, 1921 he died in Winnipeg on August 21, 2008. David was predeceased by his parents Israel and Lara Korn and wife Ruth (Levi), who was a member of a pioneer Jewish Winnipeg family. He is survived by his wife Marion; children Marion (Ken), Toronto, Roberta, Colorado and Joel (Ivy), Vancouver; granddaughters Eva (Simon), Annie (Adam) and Sarah; great-granddaughter Nola; sister Dorothy Segal and family, Toronto, as well as extended family and many dear friends. David was born and raised in Winnipeg's North End. He received his schooling at Peretz School, Machray School, Talmud Torah and St. John's Tech. From 1941 until 1945 David loyally served Canada in the Royal Canadian Artillery, and as an officer saw active duty in Italy, Holland and Germany. On discharge from the Army, David graduated Chartered Accountancy in 1951. In 1968 he was elected President of the Manitoba Institute of Chartered Accountants and was its first Jewish President. In recognition of his service to the community and to the Institute he was named a Fellow of the Manitoba Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1969. David enjoyed many summers at Falcon Lake. A devoted golfer, he was a member of Glendale Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg. For the past 15 years he spent the winters in Rancho Mirage, California with his wife Marion where they were also members of Mission Hills Country Club. David took great pleasure throughout his life in art, music, theatre, reading and learning. His dedication to his family and friends, his willing support of colleagues, his smile and good humour, his integrity, his open heart and mind will be sorely missed by all who loved him and knew him. The funeral took place at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, Winnipeg on August 24, 2008. Pallbearers were Morley Jacobs, Darwin Lockhart, Larry Adelman, Daniel Adelman, Ian Sherif, Paul Walsh. Honorary Pallbearers were Morley Blankstein, David Kaufman, Abe L. Simkin, Ron Polinsky, Joe Freed, Allan Adelman, Gordon Pullan, Stanley Thow, Charles Shore, Ken Thompson. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba, The Canadian Museum for Human Rights or The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
