JAMES WILLIAM DARRACOTT 1916 - 2008 On Tuesday August 26, 2008 at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, James William Darracott passed away, one day before his 92nd birthday. Jim was beloved husband of 64 years to Melba Louise Darracott (Buchanan), father of Paul Darracott (Winnipeg), Susan Card and husband Ernie Card, grandfather to Dallas Barrett Card, Cheryl Louise Lynch and her husband Michael Lynch, great grandfather to Sarah Elizabeth Lynch (Toronto), sister-in-law to Laurine Darracott, uncle to John and Diane (Winnipeg) and Debbie Darracott (Oakville), Allan and Sharon Pope (Vancouver), Bruce and Joan Pope (Toronto). Jim also leaves behind long time friends Ella Card, Mary Tibbs, the extended Card family, and many good friends at Lindenwood Manor. Jim was predeceased by his wife Melba in 2006, his brother Michael Darracott and sister Doreen Texmo, parents Harry and Nellie Darracott, parents-in-law James and Mary Buchanan, and sisters-in law Irene Pope (Toronto) and Beth Buchanan (Montreal). Born in Spokane, Washington on August 27, 1916, Jim served in the Canadian forces in Lachine, PQ during the Second World War. Later Jim worked for Claude Neon, Campbell Soup, Wesmar Beverages and Paddon Nurseries in Winnipeg. Gardening was Jim's hobby and passion. Jim was a longtime member of Pine Ridge Golf Club and he and Melba spent many happy retirement years as snowbirds in California. A private family service was held Friday, August 29, 2008. The family thanks Dr Jamie Boyd, Dr. Fred Ball, the staff of Lindenwood Manor and Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
