Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN CELESTINE BENSTEAD Celestine passed away peacefully at the Red River Personal Care Home, Selkirk, MB on August 27, 2008. She was born in Richmond, ON, March 11, 1909. Celestine is survived by her daughter Vera Mayers of Stonewall, MB; grandchildren Victor (Cher) Babchuk, Lloyd (Linda) Babchuk, Melvin (Joanne) Babchuk, Dale (Deb) Mayers, Shirley (Wilfred) Dux; great grandchildren Kristen (Jeremy) Berquist, Jason Babchuk, Megan Babchuk, Ryan (Shannon) Babchuk; Vince (Cheryl) Mayers, Joseph (Holly) Mayers, Matthew Mayers, Jennifer Mayers, Cole, Laine, Wyatt Dux; great great grandchildren Grace Mayers, Kodi, Ashton, Kierra, Kylan and Ryden Babchuk and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Catherine and Charles Monaghan; husband William; daughter Bernice Babchuk and her husband John; son-in-law Gordon Mayers; sisters Mary Ellen Kruger and her husband Milton, Veronica Martin and her husband Joseph; nephews John and George Martin; great-nephew Brent Martin. Celestine lived with her husband, William and their two girls, on their farms in Macklin and Evesham, SK, near the Alberta border. After her husband's death in August 1959, Celestine moved to Manitoba working at a variety of jobs within the tourist industry in both Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Her last jobs included working at the Aboriginal boarding schools in The Pas and Birtle, MB. She retired in 1972 and moved to Falcon Beach, MB to be closer to her youngest daughter, Vera. While at Falcon, she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, quilting, babysitting, beadwork and crafts. In 1997, she sold her home, as did her daughter Vera, and together they moved to Stonewall, MB. Celestine continued to live in Stonewall with Vera until her health deteriorated in early 2008. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Ste Anne's Hospital, Stonewall Hospital and Red River Place. As per her wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
