ELLIS HUGHES On August 27, 2008 at age 81, surrounded by family, Ellis died at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. He is survived by his brother Meurig, sister Iris and by his sons Gareth and Mark, wife Sheila and her children Ian and Gwynneth Beck, Sarah and Michael Raleigh, Andrew Beck and Lorne Morriss, Penny and Jim McLandress, Hilary and John Nash, Chris Beck and Brian Peel. Sheila's grandchildren Molly, Zachary, Keegan, Emma, Conor, Hamish, Haydon, Hannah, Olivia and Finlay will also deeply miss their Grand-Ellis . Ellis was predeceased by his first wife Irene and his sister Morfina. Ellis was born December 10, 1926 in Nefyn, on the coast of the Irish Sea, in North Wales where he grew up. He joined the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) in 1945. During his three years in the Navy Ellis began to learn his trade in mechanical engineering. After he left the Navy he started work with English Electric in Stafford, England where he met his first wife Irene. Ellis and Irene married in 1954; son Gareth was born in 1957 and Mark in 1959. The family emigrated to Winnipeg in 1967 and Ellis began his career with Pioneer Electric (later Federal Pioneer) where he worked until his retirement as Vice President in 1992 shortly before Irene's untimely death in 1993. Ellis married Sheila Beck (another English émigré) in 1996 and they spent 12 happy years travelling the world, visiting family and friends and thoroughly enjoying life. A funeral service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg on Thursday September 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation.
