GLADYS MARY (IRELAND) FALK DEVLIN It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Gladys Mary Devlin. Mom was born on February 13, 1929. She was the third child born to Susan L'nora and Fred Ireland from Killarney, Manitoba. Her siblings were Stella (Lockhart) (Victor), Walter (Marge), Harold (Mary) and Clifford, who have all predeceased her. She is survived by her stepbrother and sister Bruce and Linda. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marge and Mary Ireland and Helen McIntyre (Gerry). She was predeceased by a daughter Mary and her son-in-law Layne Huff who she loved as a son. She is survived by her six children, Susan Raback, Sandra Huff, Robert Falk (Rose), Nancy Turton (Lewis of Swan River), Charlotte Marchuk (D'Arcy) and Judy Meixner (Wayne). Her 18 grandchildren, Robbie and Rhonda Raback, Julie Zimmerman (David), Jeff Huff (Karen), Robin Falk, AJ Falk (Ang), Cindy Watts, (Rick), Kathy Edwards (Richard), Chris Turton, (Kim Kuruliak), Victor Timlick, Raymond Timlick, John Timlick, Katrina Marchuk, Kolton Marchuk, Kelsie Marchuk, Jennifer Meixner (Logan Binda), Krystle Meixner and Cody Meixner. She also has 13 great-grandchildren with another one expected at Christmas. Her own mother died when she was only three and finding a home for five very young children was very difficult in those days. She grieved the days of her childhood while living with other family members and was always glad to visit with her Aunt Mary Mitchell from Killarney when she could. Mom married her young soldier Eddie Falk in April 1946 and they had four children, Susan, Sandra, Robert and Nancy. They lived in Brooklands, just down the street from Uncle Harold and Aunty Mary, a special time in her life. After our father passed away Mom married Art Devlin and our family grew as we welcomed our younger sisters Charlotte and Judy. Mom and Art lived in Bissett for a few years followed by some time in Swan River then back to Winnipeg. After her husband Art passed away Mom bought property in St. Andrews (nicknamed the farm ) where she loved to have space for gardening, animals and all her outdoor barbeques for her growing family. Our Mom was a great baker and cook and all our friends knew there was always something good to eat when they came to our home. She was adventurous in many ways and always up for a challenge. She had many talents including her baking and cooking but also knitting, sewing and creating something from nothing. Mom worked as a waitress and cook for many years and owned and operated three of her own restaurants. As a mature adult she completed her grade 12 (with honors) and took a Business Course through Red River College. She then enjoyed working at the Health Sciences Centre, Physician Business Office for over 20 years. She made friends there and enjoyed many of their get togethers . Mom was diagnosed many years ago with Alzheimer's and really did her best to live and cope. She has lived the past four years at Middlechurch Nursing Home. She was very fond of some of her caregivers who have become like an extended family to us. And we want to thank Nancy and Sharon (our recently adopted sisters), Susan, Mario, Alka and Heather who loved our Mom and treated her so kindly these past few difficult months. Please know how grateful we are to you. Also, to other caring staff who comforted Mom and us during this time. Mom had requested cremation and a private family memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in care of Middlechurch Nursing Home. The light of God surrounds us. The love of God enfolds us. The power of God protects us. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilbart's Funeral Home in Selkirk.
