Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY FRASER PURDY (ZINKOWSKI) Nanny Born March 21, 1912, passed away August 30, 2008, peacefully with her loving granddaughter Dawn by her side. Thanks to the staff of 2E Oakview Place for their loving care, it meant so much to us all. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Sophia and D'Metro Zinkowski; husbands, David J.H. Fraser (1963) and John Purdy (1980); brothers, Emil and Michael; sisters, Olga, Anne, Rose and Nettie; stepson Larry Purdy; son-in-law Garth Turner. Mary is survived by sisters, Helen, Jean, Evelyn (Roy), Kay and Francis (Andrew). Mom also leaves to celebrate her life, son David B. (Louise) Fraser; daughters, Marion Bauer and Geraldine Turner. Stepson Jerry (Joyce) Purdy; stepdaughter-in-law Betty Purdy. Grand-children, David B. (Sheree) Fraser, Grant (Margaret) Fraser, Linda (Kevin) Jacobsen, Carolyn (Ed) Whelan, Sharon (Mike) Holt, Laura (Charles) Eckel, John (Cathy) Bauer, Karen Lanier, Robert Bauer, Tom (Sherry) Turner, Glenn (Rachel) Turner, Dawn (Cliff) Watson; stepgrandchildren, Jared (Monica) Purdy, Diane (Keith) MacNeill, 16 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and special friend Jack Taylor and family. Mom attended Tarno School in Lledwyn, MB and Florence Nightingale School in Winnipeg. Mom was working in the city when she met and married Dad in 1931. Mom and Dad struggled through The Depression and managed to overcome the obstacles of the times through pure grit and determination. After Dad's passing, Mom was determined to accomplish an active and independent life. She enrolled in Success Business College, after which she was employed by the Motor Vehicle Branch retiring at age 65. Mom and Dad were active members of Christ Anglican Church. Mom was a member of the Lady's Auxiliary. She was famous for her cooking and baking. Many of her bake sale donations were sold before they made it to the bake sale table. Mom, words cannot express all that you have given to your family, friends and community. We will miss your unique sense of humour and loving guidance. Your memory will be cherished by us all. Your innate words of wisdom will be passed down through the generations. Farewell from your loving family. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance. Interment at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers: Tom Turner, Glenn Turner, Cliff Watson, Gordon Zinkowski, David Fraser Jr. and Raymond Ratynski. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
