ERNESTO CIPOLLA It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their dearly beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ernesto Cipolla, 97 years, who passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Poseidon Care Centre. Ernesto was born May 29, 1911 in San Marco Argentano, Cosenza, Italy where he grew up and lived until his marriage to Emira. They lived in the little town of Mongrassano, Cosenza until 1957 at which time they moved to Cosenza, Italy. He immigrated to Winnipeg with his wife Emira in 1972 to be with their children. They resided at the Villa Cabrini Apartments at 433 River Avenue for 18 years and made many friends during their residence there. Ernesto was predeceased by his wife Emira who passed away in 1997, his parents and six brothers and two sisters. Ernesto leaves to mourn his children, daughter Lucia Scarpino (Francesco), son Alessandro (Santino) Cipolla (Romana), daughter Maria Marasco (Roberto), son Aldo Cipolla (Connie), all of Winnipeg. He also leaves to mourn his sisters-in-law, Michelina Cipolla and Caterina Staffa in Italy and Carmela de Camiglia in Argentina and their families. He will also be missed dearly by his 13 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren. Our father's life was not an easy one, a very hard worker trying to provide for his family in lean times, always challenged to make something out of nothing. His one passion was gardening and spending time with his family. He knew the art of weaving and wove little fruit baskets to give to his family and friends. He also loved spending time walking around the neighborhood looking for mushrooms that grew on trees which he thought were a tasty treat. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Rosary Church with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano as celebrant. Entombment to follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare of Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9. The family wishes to send special thanks to the 4th floor nursing staff of Poseidon Care Centre for their care and compassion.
