AMY MCCONKEY It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Amy McConkey on September 3, 2008. Amy was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Barbor, second husband, Frank McConkey, her parents George and Hilmina Bateman, her brother, Alan Bateman and sisters Mable Swarbrick, Nina Gallop, and Dorothy Dalrymple. She is survived by her children, Sharon MacLean, Gary McConkey (Terri), Noni Mclean; her grandchildren, Amanda Ho (Warren), Bethany MacLean (Jason), Rhys MacLean (Fawn), Drew Mclean (Vanessa), and Kyle McConkey (Rachel); great-grandchildren Augusta Ho, William Bates, Aiden McConkey, and Dyson McConkey. She also left behind many nieces and nephews. Mom was born on December 22, 1916 and raised in Transcona, MB. She was employed with MTS for many years and retired from the Telephones in 1982 which allowed her to travel to Europe and Hawaii. Mom had a California trip planned every year as she loved to visit her California relatives . Mom always had a full schedule which included friends and family. She became close friends with neighbours in both Elmwood and Transcona and was always a phone call away from tea and dainties and a chat. She had a longtime friendship with her Canasta Club friends as they took turns hosting a night of cards and camaraderie. She enjoyed many summers with family and friends at Winnipeg Beach. She kept everyone warm with her crocheted afghans and knitted winter wear. She loved to share with others how she curled for 42 years, a sport her family grew to love alongside her. She hosted family holidays and birthdays filled with fun and laughter. She particularly treasured her time with her grandchildren, always going the extra mile for them. Throughout her lifetime she remained a consummate lady in all that she did. A great Mom, Wife, Aunt and Friend to all, vibrant and full of life. The mischievous twinkle in her eyes spoke for her when she couldn't. Her loving nature touched us all. Thank you to the staff of Concordia Place for their years of care and compassion. A celebration of Amy's life will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Concordia Place Chapel, 1000 Molson Street. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Concordia Foundation.
