SAEUNN JULIANNA FOURNIER-LATTER (nee KRISTJANSON) Julia passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, September 5, 2008. Her passing leaves us with heavy hearts, yet we are grateful for being able to share many years together. She was born on July 14, 1915 in the Brown District (1-6), south of Morden, to Benedict Kristjanson and Stefania (Lindal). She spent her early adult years working in various capacities. It was during these years that she met Tony Fournier and they were married on June 29, 1952. Their daughter Joycelyn arrived on May 16, 1955. A close knit family of three enjoyed travelling together and family times, especially Christmas. Mom was an excellent homemaker and mother. She took a great deal of pride in her home where she lived for over 40 years. She and Dad made a wonderful home there where family and friends gathered for excellent home cooked meals and warm hospitality. Julia was involved in her community with the Icelandic Ladies Aid, St. Paul's United Church Women's Group (UCW). Mom was very loyal to her Icelandic heritage and this community always had a special place in her heart. Wherever she went she made friends easily and was very true to them. Her first grandchild arrived in 1983, when Craig was born and in 1985, on her birthday, her granddaughter, Marielle was born. She had a deep love and great pride for them. In 1990, Julia married for the second time to Walter Latter. In 1997, Mom and Walter moved to Winnipeg to be closer to Joycelyn. Although she was happy to be close to family, her heart always remained in her home area, Morden. In her latter years, Julia received great care from various care givers, and in particular, from the staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence and West Park Manor for which her family is very grateful. Mom/Amma will be remembered as a generous, caring person who always had a positive outlook. She will be remembered for her warm personality which drew her close to those she met. Those wonderful memories will remain with us always. Julia is survived by Joycelyn (Bryan) and their children Craig and Marielle. She is also survived by her brother Tryggvi (Frances); their family, Darryl (Cindy), Nancy (Ron), Brian (Karen), Robert (CheAnne) and their families, brother-in-law Eythor Isfeld and her sisters-in-law, Joyce and Lucille Fournier, as well as many other extended family: nieces, nephews and cousins. Bryan's Dad, Alec and sister Marcella also mourn her loss. She was predeceased by her first husband Tony, her second husband Walter, her sister Loa, and brothers Ben and Lorry. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church in Morden. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted for the Morden Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We remember with fondness your lovely mother. Decades later my mom remembers the little visits over the fence and the fun we had as little girls.I was in Morden a few weeks ago and drove by the neighbourhood and our houses have not changed very much. I will always have fond memories of my friendship with you. I called the church for your address but they were not allowed to give it so I hope you receive this little message. Take care and God bless you. I know you will miss your mom. love joan {wall} + family - Posted by: Joan Neilson (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2008
