BARBARA EDWINA EMILY FRASER (nee HACKING) June 21, 1933 - September 3, 2008 Barbara Fraser passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, British Columbia. Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived in several different Canadian cities with her Mom and Dad before they settled again in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1954, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics. It was at University that she met and married Dad and they shared a great group of friends. We moved to Don Mills, Ontario in 1959 and enjoyed camping in the summer and ice skating and tobogganing in winter. Mom learned to downhill ski in Don Mills, and convinced Dad that he should try it too. In 1966 we moved to Ottawa, and enjoyed the cottage at Pike Lake in the summer, and downhill and cross-country skiing in winter. In 1974 we moved to West Vancouver, trading the cottage for a swimming pool in the backyard, the ocean a few blocks away, and downhill skiing at Cypress Bowl and Whistler. While raising her family, Barbara enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, travelling, skiing and entertaining friends and family; she was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and cook. In 1994 Barbara won The Dorothy McMurdie Award from the Canadian Quilters' Association; Canada's most prestigious quilting award for having made a significant contribution to quilting in Canada as a quilter and teacher . Barbara will be sadly missed by her husband Donald Fraser, son Bruce Fraser, daughter Karen Linton (David), and her many, many friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Knight for his care and consideration over the years, and the staff of Lions Gate Hospital for their outstanding care and attention. According to her wishes, there will be no service. If friends so desire, memorial donations to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Hello Karen, Bruce and Don, So sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. We have wonderful memories of her at Pike Lake. We are still there! We bought a little sailboat this summer and as I watched my girls tack out towards the island, I thought of the fun times Karen and I set sail in your 420 and came back to some delicious goodies baked by your mum. The Davidson's have been there for decades but we still refer to it as "Frasers". The decor is still vintage Barbara! Condolences and warm wishes to all of you.
