SHEILA LYNN WHYTE It is with sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Lynn Whyte on September 5, 2008 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, following a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Sheila is survived by her sister Elizabeth Cain; niece Marie (Darrin) Hawley and grandniece Kathleen Hawley, all of Brandon, along with many cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Violet (nee Blair) Whyte. Sheila was born November 13, 1944 in Brandon, Manitoba. She spent her early years on the family farm at Douglas and her teenage years in Brandon. Following her graduation from high school, Sheila graduated from the Manitoba Teachers' College and began her life career teaching in several locations in Manitoba. The first four years of her career were at Brandon Hills, Emerson, and The Pas, Manitoba. In 1969, Sheila joined the staff of the Lord Selkirk School Division and taught in several schools in the Selkirk area until she retired in 2003, thirty-four years later. During her early teaching career Sheila was also a part time student at the University of Manitoba graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. Sheila's life was devoted to her family and friends, her teaching career and her zest for travel and exploration. Sheila was a true Canadian, visiting Canada from coast to coast to coast, spending time in each region of the country including two trips to the High Arctic. Internationally, Sheila made several trips throughout North America and to Europe and Asia. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Sheila's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, Manitoba, on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Madford Cemetery, Douglas, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila's memory can be made to The National Ovarian Cancer Association, 101-145 Front Street East, Toronto, Ontario M5A 1E3 or to a charity of one's choice.
