CHRISTINE SAWCHUK (nee POCHINKO) It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Christine Marian Sawchuk, aged 76 years of Selkirk, MB. Our loving mother, Baba, mother-in-law and aunt passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital on September 6, 2008 with her family by her side. Chris was born July 18, 1932. She grew up and attended school in Rossdale, MB. Chris graduated from Psychiatric nursing in 1953 and married Russell that same year. Chris volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels, the cancer support group and her church group. She enjoyed knitting, baking, doing crafts and their many trips to the states. She is survived by her daughter Kendra; three grandsons Keith, Perry and Gary; granddaughter Trisha and daughter-in-law Elsie (Lorraine). She is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Chris was predeceased by her loving husband Russell in 2005, son Cory in 2003, parents Michael and Annie, sister Marlene and brothers Jim, Lawrence and Richard. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Harry Chuckry officiating. Interment will follow in the All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith, Perry and Gary Sawchuk, Glenn Kozan, Donald Sawchuk and Randy Woloshyn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, SDGH, 100 Easton Drive, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2M2.
