Date of Passing: Sep 08, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELL ADAMS On Monday, September 8, 2008 Mom passed away at the age of 98. Mom was born April 20, 1910 to Arend and Antje Vryenhoek. She was the youngest of nine children and the only one born in Canada. She was predeceased by brothers Harry, Abraham, and John, and sisters Jaapje Overwater, Beatrice Beekenkamp, Marie Morton, Jane Frost and Anne Coulter. Nell and Cyril Adams started dating after Cyril bought her a box lunch at a church function. They went together for ten years, before they could afford to get married in 1939. They were a hard working team. Nell and Cyril had 2 children - Carol Anne and George. Nell was predeceased by her husband, Cyril in 1987, and son George in 2001. Nell is survived by Carol Anne (Bill Langton), four grandchildren; Ken (Brenda), Darlene (Jason), James and Michelle, and great grandchildren Alyson, Madison, Liam, Sydney, Holli, Ethan and Carter. Nell was very proud of all of the many accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nell experienced many things in her lifetime; from lamplight to electricity, pumping water to running water from a tap, radio, TV, computers, two world wars and the depression. She also had many interests of her own. She enjoyed her family first and foremost, as well as travelling to visit her family, singing, carpet bowling, swimming, sewing, crocheting, knitting, listening to her family play the piano, and watching figure skating and curling on TV. Nell was an active member of the Eager Beavers and the Good Neighbours Senior Center. In her younger years, she enjoyed skating, and softball. Nell was a born nurse. She worked hard as a caregiver to her aging parents yet valued the time they spent together. She also loved animals, and took extra care of the ones who really needed it. She would even nurse plants back to life. I would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Donwood Personal Care Home for their support and dedication to mom. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Donwood Manor, or Grey Street United Church.
