ALWYN VICTOR HOLLOWAY September 30, 1912 - September 8, 2008 Following a battle with different health problems he passed away at home. His wife of 55 years Loretta Jeanette (nee Lamb), brothers Wilfred and Gordon, sister Islay Simpson and parents George and Annie (nee Mitchell) predeceased him. Plus predeceased by brothers/sisters-in-law, a nephew and numerous cousins and their spouse. His daughter Pat with whom he has lived with for the past ten years survives him. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins of more than one generation and by his sister-in-law Kay Lamb. He worked at Canada Packers as a shipper until his retirement. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Queen's Own Cameron. Alwyn enjoyed gardening with Lonette at their former home. While living with Pat he enjoyed seeing and hearing about her community garden plot. Alwyn belonged at one time to the society of the Sons of England. After attending the Winnipeg Philatelic Society for 25 years Al became a life member. Al enjoyed attending the different Age and Opportunity branches and going to the Tache Centre. Al and Lonette went across to Holland for the Welcome Back to the Canadian Liberators. In 1998 Al went to see the British Isles with his daughter. In 2000 Pat drove him to Newfoundland. His memorial will be held on September 14, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Young United Church located at 222 Furby Street with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent in his memory to the Alzheimer's Society, 10-120 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
