Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY NELSON (nee UNRAU) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Nelson on September 10, 2008 at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. She was born on January 30, 1918 in Prince George, B.C. She is survived by her son Leonard Heppner (Aileen), daughter Pat Fair (Tom), and grandchildren Brian (Tammy), David, Darlene, Shannon (Herman), Darren (Jacquie). Mary was proud of her grandchildren and five great-granddaughters Jade, Serena, Emily, Jillian and Samantha. She also leaves behind her sisters Ruby Miller, Hilda Unrau and brother Eric Leuzinger. She was predeceased by her son Don Heppner and adoptive parents Anne and Jacob Unrau. Mary spent her life in Winnipeg and worked as a domestic and cook to support her family. She was a member of the ANAF Fort Garry Unit No. 60 volunteering in the kitchen and visiting vets at Deer Lodge. She was a very good cook. Mary loved animals and she had various dogs and cats over the years. In 1989 Mary had a stroke that left her blind but it didn't stop her from living her life. In 1993 she moved into Ashbury Place and resided there until February 2008. We'd like to thank all the homecare workers (especially Julie) and her volunteer Irene De Gagne for their help and kindness during that time. We'd also like to thank the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre for the care and compassion shown for our mother. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB or the Humane Society.
