GRACE CAMERON CHAMBERLAIN (nee MCMURDY) 1914-2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Cameron Chamberlain on September 10, 2008 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Grace was born on June 12, 1914 to John and Lydia McMurdy. She lived her early years in Winnipeg's west end and later moved to West Kildonan when she married her husband Bob June 22, 1940. During their 63-year marriage they participated in many community service activities. They belonged to the Kiwanis Clubs of West Kildonan and later East Kildonan, Bleak House, McBeth House and Seven Oaks Museum. During the winter Grace was an avid curler participating in many bonspiels and serving as president of the West Kildonan Ladies Curling Club and board member of the Manitoba Ladies Curling Association. Summers were spent at West Hawk Lake where she spent many hours socializing and playing cards with friends and neighbors. During the Second World War she drove a streetcar and was the first woman driver to achieve a one year safety record. She was proud of that accomplishment. A quiet woman she lived her life with integrity, commitment and devotion to her family. Her support and love of her family although subtle was always present. Predeceased by her parents Grace leaves to mourn her daughter Roberta (Ken) Vyse; granddaughter Kendra (Jordan) Lariviere; great grandchild Jaiden Cameron born the day after Grace's passing; sisters and brothers-in-law Arthur (Louise) Chamberlain, John (Dorothy) Chamberlain, Marjorie Chamberlain, Isabella Chamberlain, Luc Van Mol, Mabel Gawne, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Grace's life will be held at St. Martin-in-the Field Church, 160 Smithfield Avenue at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008.
